Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane Washington was inspired by the creation of Mother's Day. She originally suggested June 5th, her father's birthday, but the minister's of the church she was part of wanted more time after Mother's Day to prepare their sermon's so they made it the third Sunday in June instead.
